Tory Lib Dems

I notice Lib Dems are appealing to Labour voters to back them against the Tories.

They would also like them to kindly forget their disgusting coalition with the Tories as well.

Anti Social Capitalism

The government website boasts that "Perpetrators of anti-social behaviour will face swift and visible justice".

However, does this mean the profiteers of Southern Water will have to don high visibility jackets with "Community Payback" on the back while they clear up the sewage they pump into rivers and the sea every day of the week?

I wouldn't bank on it.

La Belle France

Such a pity Charles' visit to France has been delayed. They really know how to treat royalty over there. They cut them down to size.

OFSTED

OFSTED throws words like "inadequate" at other people and schools.

I can think of several words for OFSTED and I expect you can too. How about callous, unfeeling, bullying, ignorant, arrogant and of course "inadequate"?

Cases of OFSTED behaviour ought to be more widely publicised and this is something the union could do without exposing teachers to OFSTED retaliation.

Institutional Racism

The Met does not see ‘institutional racism, misogyny and homophobia’ as an issue to be tackled. They wear it as a badge of honour.

There are police officers who want to tackle crime and serve the community. In some forces, however, they are a persecuted minority.

I once drank in a pub frequented by Met police officers. Their racist jokes were ones school children would have found too childish.

20,000 Leagues under the Sea

Jules Verne's book anticipated some of the features of modern submarines and drew on an encyclopedic knowledge of the oceans. I can thoroughly recommend this book.
Captain Nemo is an enigmatic character who has turned his back on the world in order to explore the depths of the ocean. His very name means "nobody" and the exploration of his enigma exercises the thoughts of Professor Arronax as much as the natural phenomena which he describes in graphic detail.

Incidentally 20,000 French leagues is about 40,000 nautical miles. A lot in other words.

A comment on the Gary Lineker fiasco.

According to the BBC website "Opposition to racism is a fundamental democratic principle, reflected, for example, in the fact that incitement to racial hatred is a criminal offence in the UK. It is therefore fully consistent with our guidelines."

Gary Lineker was duly expressing an anti-racist view about the language of hate used by the government against refugees. You can quibble about whether it is racist or fascist but you cannot deny that Gary Lineker was within the BBC guidelines.

If the Labour Party is too pusilanimous to stand up to racism, socialists and trade unionists will have to do the job.

Twitter

Marianne Spring's Panorama program on 6 March dealt with Elon Musk's "twitterstorm".

The program revealed how the team who tried to deal with child protection on Twitter was slashed from 20 to 6. The consequences for protecting children from predatory paedophiles and for content which triggers suicide are obvious. Clearly Elon Musk was not interested in these issues because he considered the free speech of paedophiles was more important.

The User Safety Committee which consisted of Twitter users recorded a massive increase in white supremacists posting on Twitter unchecked. Trump wasn't the only obnoxious individual to be welcomed back to Twitter with open arms.

The most harrowing part of the programme was the accounts of rape victims who sought support on Twitter but were met with a torrent of abuse.

People like Musk are not the best guardians of "freedom of speech". If Labour were less pusilanimous they would be fighting against this malign influence. It looks as though trade unionists and Socialists will have to do the job for them.

Fall Guy

It is noticeable whenever the Tories want to do something disgusting and racist, they get Rishi Sunak to do it.

The latest bill is even called "Illegal" on the assumption that it will not actually be in accordance with international law.

The point of course is to stir up hatred against migrants rather than introduce a workable law.

Rwanda has the worst record on human rights in the world. Should Britain really be competing with them?

The Windsor Agreement

The Windsor Agreement is a bit of a knotty problem. One issue is that the DUP are not entirely rational. For example, they have an intense dislike of scented flower petals and spend their meetings shouting "NO POT-POURRI!"
